Onslaught + SuidAkrA + Final Depravity + bibleblack, Stockholm 3/4-2011
Kategori: Concerts
So, second time I saw them this week! The guys came out with lots of energy and actually looked like they had been looking forwards to this gig! Unfortunately they were met by the lamest show up that I've seen at that venue in a very long time. I think there were like 20 people there at this time or something. The band kept going strong though and did what they could.
Sadly they got a pretty short setlist this time and they had taken away songs that I really like. I mean the setlist they had on Wednesday had this nice build up in the beginning and then came the fast ones and finally ending with Merciful Fate. This night they had cut away the middle part. Ahwell, what can you do? The band performed well and seemed to have some fun anyway, but the circumstances weren't the best really.

Final Depravity
After that came some German Thrash that replaced Debauchery on the bill who had cancelled for some reason. I have never heard about these guys before, but they did an all right job. It did feel like they were trying to play a bit over their ability though since they had quite a few mistakes. I got the feeling that they might be better recorded than live for now.
Some more people had showed up at the venue, but it was still very few around so not too much support really. And it also felt a bit like they got a bit too long set, personally I'd liked to see two more songs by bibleblack instead but oh well.

SuidAkrA
So the surprise of the night then! I have one album from these guys (Command to Charge) which I really don't like at all - it's way too metalcore:y for my taste... but I have seen them at Wacken before, where I discovered that they're actually playing a Melodic Death style with Celtic Folk music influences - and I've heard this is more to their style and that Command to Charge is a bit of a black sheep among their albums, so I was curious to see what this would be.
Unfortunately they didn't bring any bagpipes this time (like they did when I saw them at Wacken), but the gig turned out to be really nice! They have some really cool tunes that work very well live - and it was damn tight. And on top of that they have a really good frontman who interacts really well with the crowd and got the whole front row headbanging (including me!).
So a really nice show! And I guess I should check out their other albums some time...

Onslaught
And then, finally, after one and a half year of rescheduling it was time for Onslaught! This show was booked for the spring of 2010 originally as far as I remember, and has since gotten a few different dates... But here they were!
So for those who doesn't know, Onslaught are one of those really oldschool English Thrash bands that has recently reunited to bring back the noise. And as most of those oldschool bands they know what they're doing on stage!
That kind of describes their show really, an experienced Thrash gig simply put. Really damn tight, lots of energy and short breaks. I imagine it's a bit hard to motivate yourself for a gig when there's a very small crowd (it was still very few people, I think somewhere between 100-150 or so) but they didn't let that stop them. I mean, if you'd just judge the size of the crowd by the way Sy Keeler talked it might've been thousands of people there. :)
Despite the few people they actually got a moshpit going... by using the oldest trick in the book ("So we were in Gothenburg yesterday... they were quite crazy! And they told us up here in Stockholm you are all pussies! Is it really true?"). So I guess that just goes to show what you can do with experience and a really tight set!
Good Thrash, good headbanging, Metal Metal Metal. Hell yeah.
