Katatonia 20-year anniversary, Stockholm 14/12-2011

There was a support band this night. Nothing special really. Don't have anything in particular to write.
Katatonia
So this is one of those band that I've ended up seeing quite a lot of times somehow. And I'm happy to say that they've become better and better. The first time I pretty much left after a few songs, because Jonas couldn't sing a single note. Now however they're quite good! Jonas actually manage to hit the notes most of the times now (except for the first couple of songs, I guess he should try warming up one of these days...).
So this was a bit of a special show, with Katatonia celebrating 20 years. And as such they started the show by playing the album Last Fair Deal Gone Down from start to end. Apparently they see it as their "breakthrough album" and it happens to celebrate ten years this year as well. Personally I've not really listened to it, so I couldn't really get into it. It was all right I suppose, but nothing special to me.
Then however came the second set after a short break. Now it was time for some stuff they don't usually play!
Second part of the setlist was:
Forsaker
Liberation
For My Demons
Longest Year
Wait Outside
My Twin
Ghost of the Sun
I Break
Evidence
July
Which is to me, a very nice set! But, there's more! The encore was what made this show go from "good" to "really good"! It was time to bring out some old band members and play some really old stuff! So Fredrick and Mattias Norrman, as well as Guillaume Le Huche took turns on the stage for a song each! Since I'm not too much into Katatonia I can't really give an exact song list for the encore, but I can say that they played songs from every album they've released. Yes, that's one song from Dance of December Souls as well as one from Brave Murder Day (that was Murder by the way). Hell yeah! It's strange that one week ago I saw Opeth without growls, and now I get to see Katatonia with growls. Now that's kind of weird! It was Blakkheim who handled the growls by the way, as Åkerfeldt was sadly in Australia at the time (he was invited though) and Jonas didn't want to ruin his voice (again). But Blakkheim did very well on those songs!
The second last song they played they also invited Frank Default who has played keys and doing various stuff for the band on stage for the first time ever. And they played a really nice song with only keyboards and Jonas on vocals. So nice following Murder.
So this turned out to be a really nice show, especially as I came with no real expectations having seen them a few times before. But I guess I was just in the mood for this, as well as a solid performance (except for a few songs in the beginning)!
