Rob Coffinshaker
Rob is pretty damn awesome. Usually you can find him in his band The Coffinshakers but tonight he was solo with his guitar. I actually like him better solo than in his band anyway, so that's all right with me!
Rob is playing a really cool horror/vampire style of ballads, quite a sad and dark touch to it. It just sounds great! It's not much to say about a guy who sits on a stool with his guitar and plays, but he didn't seem super happy with his own performance. I guess he's a perfectionist so he can't forgive himself for missing a tone here and there. :)
He played my favourite song No Rest For the Wicked anyhow, so I'm happy! Also cool to see Ghost Riders in the Sky that got quite the response from the crowd singing a long! Great start!
Månegarm
Then it was time for Månegarm! Fifth time I see them and I just won't tire of them! It was quite interesting to see that they all actually fitted on stage - however if Pierre had still been in the band I don't think they would've! Not only did they fit on stage they actually managed to move around quite a lot despise the lack of space! Janne lost his balance a couple of times though, but it all turned out good anyway! Really impressive that they managed that on such a tiny stage!
I don't like when bands play at this bar usually, one part is the stage mentioned above and another is that the sound is usually crap. This night however it was unusually good, it started really bad but got better. The guitars were kind of muddy, but the vocals and the violin were clearly audible at all times so it was at least decent!
And for Månegarm themselves they did just as awesome as always! Some minor technical issues, like a broken string before they were to play I evig tid but that was compensated with an extra long intro/violin solo and such. So no big thing! They know what they're doing by now, and it shows in the support they get as well! So yeah, the place was kind of small - no matter we stayed and called them back for an extra encore anyway! Always great when you get an extra song out of the setlist. :]
I did miss Ursjälens visdom this time though, and maybe they've played a very similar set for quite a long time now... but it's still a great one! I'm not sure I think Bergagasten is the best choice though, it's kind of long and slow - great song but I think they have songs that fit better live! Anyhow, Ett gammalt bergatroll was an awesome choice for extra song - as that one was quite a while I heard live! :]
All in all I can just say that Månegarm managed to defeat the poor conditions that this bar offers and made it into a great night and even the crowd was awesome!
