Some Finnish Death Metal started the evening. There's one word to describe them: Heavy. Actually you'd need two words, the other one is: Fast as hell. :P
They put on a pretty nice show, but there was something lacking for me. Didn't quite speak to me, it was just mostly a wall of sound. I didn't think it was bad either though.

Arroganz
And then some German Black Metal. They were quite atmospheric, but a bit too chaotic for my taste. Suddenly blast beats, suddenly slow parts and so on. I don't know, I couldn't quite get a grip of them.

FERAL
This is more like it! Some Death Metal from the north of Sweden! They have this really oldschool sound, with very doomy parts combined with the pure energy of Death Metal. Some really really nice stuff! Hadn't heard them before, but I'll definitely look them up a bit more closely, as a 40 minute live set is perhaps not all they have to offer.
Something I forgot to mention earlier was that the bar the gig was at had a pretty small stage, and stage area (the stage area was separated from the bar area) - I guess there could be like 30 people in there and it'd be space for everyone (ie you could squeeze in a few more). For the first two bands the support was quite moderate, but when FERAL played it was constant headbanging in the frontrow (ie 5 people)! So good stuff!

DEMONICAL
Actually it's the third time that I see DEMONICAL now, was a bit sceptical to if I should go or not at first actually - as the other two times it has pretty much been blastbeats throughout the entire set. Which is okay, but nothing special really. What tipped the balance was the new songs, as it seems they've taken a slightly more melodic approach to it all, getting a bit closer to Amon Amarth in their sound. Make no mistake though, it's still Stockholm Death Metal! So I was curious about the new songs live anyway.
Not only did they sound awesome live, but they fit in the set very nicely. And I think they might've varied their set a bit as well (or maybe there was just better sound this time than last times I saw them!) but there was a bit more variety overall! So I'm happy to say that third time indeed is a charm, as this is definitely the best show I've seen from DEMONICAL!
Oh, and if the support for FERAL was great, the support for DEMONICAL was awesome. Headbanging all around (all 30 of us! :P )! Actually I don't mind that the venue was so small and that there wasn't so much people. It all turned out really nice - since when the venue is small you still get the great atmosphere if there's just a few people that are into it! Really nice!
