Fagerlund's reviews

Here I will post my reviews, of mostly Metal concerts/festivals that I've been to.

DESULTORY+VICIOUS ART, Stockholm 4/5-2011

Kategori: Concerts

Desultory
Strange to put the headliner first on the bill! Not that I really complain though (do note this was a club gig though, where all bands play ~1 hour each anyway)...
Anyhow, great to see these guys again! Pretty newly resurrected Death Metallers still going strong! It was pretty much exactly what I expected really. They're one of those bands that has been playing for a very long time (all though they had a break for 14 years with this particular band) and you can tell from how they do it all. It just says "Experienced".
So with that solid ground lets move on to the details. The setlist first of all! A nice mixture of new and old, with mostly stuff from the new album, Counting Our Scars, which is expected. However I think the new and old songs mix really well, so it's not a huge deal which songs they play when they have so many quality songs to choose from! We did get to hear the debute of Ready To Bleed live though (how exciting!), and that's always fun!
Also I think the sound was pretty nice as well so all cool. One thing you could still wish for would be more support from the crowd I guess. People haven't quite catched up with Desultory after the break it seems. But the frontrow did a good job at least! Funny thing is it was pretty much exactly the same people in the front as on the DEMONICAL gig - but here the venue plays a huge part... with a much larger venue the atmosphere got a bit more... empty.
Nevertheless, still an awesome gig!

Setlist:
Tears
Forever Gone
Counting Our Scars
In A Cage
Life Shatters
Left Behind
Ready To Bleed
Uneven Numbers
Enslaved
(Winter)

Vicious Art
And then the band with the members who together makes a pretty damn long list of merits! Jörgen Sandström of course stands out a bit extra. Second time I see these guys as well! First time was also first time I saw DESULTORY as well actually, and when someone in the frontrow answered Jörgen as he said "come closer Stockholm, don't be afraid!" with "play more often!" (I don't know how it is in other countries but in Sweden you hear someone scream "Play faster!" at every Death Metal gig there is, and this was kind of a wordplay on that) Jörgen actually commented that as well. "Yeah, we're on this worldtour with Desultory, we've played two shows in one and a half years and we start to feel worse for wear. It was a long way from Mosebacke (the other venue they played at last time, which is just a few hundred meters away)". So in other words I've been to two thirds of a world  tour (they plan to make the third gig at Getaway Rock Festival in Gävle)! Pretty cool. :P
Anyhow the gig was also what I expected from them. Some fucking heavy Death Metal, tight as hell and then the insanity of Jocke Widfeldt (vocals). It's kinda hard to describe him on stage (or in a crowd for that matter, as he behaves the same on gigs - yeah I see him pretty often). He basically moves like a mental patient, with all the ticks and subtle moves you'd expect to see in an asylum. It's very unique really, and fits the music/lyrics so well. Always interesting to see!
Good to see some more people showed up for Vicious Art as well, and actually Desultorys vocalist was next to me and we rocked out some together. That's something you just have to love with the Metal scene, in which other genre would one band come out in the crowd and rock out to another band? Probably none.

And that's that! Oh, I guess I should mention that Scar Symmetry were playing after Vicious Art as well, but I left before that to spare my ears!
