"The Secret band"
Well, I all ready knew it was General Surgery being the secret band... but it's a secret so don't tell anyone...
Anyhow, third time I saw them actually. So I thought I knew what to expect, but actually I was wrong. Because this time they actually sounded a bit different from what I'm used to. Usually they have their full throttle Grindcore, but this time they started the set with a lot more groovy sound! Which was quite nice actually. Then as the set progressed the faster the songs got as well, and well the sound at the venue wasn't great especially not for blasting...
Still it was a pleasant surprise!

Fester
Then it was time for some younger guys! At first I thought it'd be Fester from Norway the really oldschool Death Metal band... but no, it was Fester from Malmö who're not so oldschool in age, but damn do they get the sound right! Apparently it was also their last gig ever.
The first thing you notice when seing this band is of course that it's the drummer who's singing... it's kind of weird, but damn impressive playing this kind of music! And he was damn good at both drumming and growling as well! The rest of the band wasn't the tightest perhaps, but they more than made up for it in pure energy and passion. They really captured the spirit of oldschool Death Metal! And well, Jörgen Sandström of Torture Division/Grave/etc agreed as he was up on the second row headbanging for half the set!
And what better way to end a band than to play Zombie Ritual? I can't think of many things. Fester ruled the night for sure!

Nirvana 2002
And then finally there was the headline, this underground cult band... They used to be named Nirvana, but then some silly band from Seattle came and stole their name so they had to change it... Anyhow, I think they're most famous simply because it's Orvar Säfströms band, and he's a bit of a TV-personality in Sweden. All though he does have some Death Metal cred as well of course as he did vocals on Entombed's EP Crawl back in the day (which they also played this night by the way). And the rest of the band are no no-names either coming from Merciless etc as well!
So basically it was pretty cool to see them, just because. Orvars voice isn't that great these days, and yeah - with three gigs in Sweden (and like 3-4 more in other countries) since 1986 he hasn't had that much practice either...
Anyhow it was a solid set, with both old and new songs (in this case it means they were recorded in 1990) and then two covers to make the set a bit longer. Pretty cool stuff!
