First band of the night were these American Thrashers. And well, that kind of describe their whole gig I guess. American Thrashers. Sounded a lot like Exodus. Extremely tight and well-played, but I kind of knew exactly what was coming even without having heard them before... Definitely not bad, good support band for sure.
Nile
Third time I get the chance to see these guys! It's a bit weird with three bands on the bill that could be headlining... but I guess someone has to go first! At least they had a decently long set anyway. However there were a lot of new songs which means I don't really know them since I've still not heard their new album... (yeah shame on me). So in that regard I'd liked some more stuff that I recognised, but that's just my own fault so!
The sound however was really good! Playing those low registers that Nile do is very hard to get to sound clearly. Low growls, low guitars... but I could hear everything perfectly. So great job on that one! And damn are they good musicians. Amazing to see!
Was also nice to see Ola (Grave) and LG (Entombed) join them on stage for Black Seeds of Vengeance!

This was actually my first time seeing them! I got a bit sceptical after their latest album as to whether I'd ever see them actually, but when they turn up with this company there was no reason not to! And also I shouldn't have doubted either I guess, of course they will bring old songs! They even kickstarted the show with Immortal Rites and then kept it coming!
It was a bit funny, in a sad way, to see what happened when they played two songs from the latest album anyhow. As right before that they played Maze of Torment and there was general chaos in the crowd. Then they play two new songs, and suddenly the whole crowd goes still as if frozen by the ice outside. I saw a few people nodding heads, but that was it. Stockholm doesn't approve of their latest album. Heh. And Vincent, being a good frontman responds to this by saying "Well, I can see there are a lot of fans of oldschool Death Metal here tonight!" And they went on to play two more songs from Altars of Madness, and all was fine and chaotic once more!
Personally I think that the two songs they did play from the latest offering weren't too bad, and if anything they did fit in the set. I mean, had they been on any other Morbid Angel album I think they'd gone down just fine, especially as they didn't have any extra effects live and such. I guess they should make a new album soon so people starts to forget about the controversy and might even enjoy those songs instead!
Overall I it was a great show though! Especially since it was a first time for me I guess. Good sound, good songs, awesome performance! Like I mentioned before, Vincent has a lot of charisma and is a good frontman and has some nice interaction with the crowd as well having some nice speeches. I mean, to namedrop and salute a row of the Swedish Death Metal bands is a sure way to appreciation from the crowd in Stockholm!

Kreator
So, sixth time I get to see these German masters of Thrash. And I guess it's starting to get a bit too many times in too little time... at least when they make a setlist like this... because it felt like they basically took the setlist from the last tour and simply replaced the songs from that album with songs from the latest album instead. It gets a bit silly when I know exactly which song is coming when in the set...
Anyhow, that aside it was a nice show. This time they started with a nice little compilation video showing some of the history of Kreator with all the albums and some pictures and videos from those time. Always nice to see really, when a band has been around for so long!
Also, there was one big surprise for me at least. They played acoustic guitar live. I didn't think I would ever see Kreator live with an acoustic guitar. But Sami played an extended intro for United in Hate which was quite nice! So even if the setlist in itself wasn't surprising they did bring something I didn't expect! The thing with Kreator however, is that they have a really great discography. They could chose from so many different songs, and yet we get the same classics again. It's definitely not bad, not at all. It's great! But for me, who's seen them quite a lot it gets slightly repetitive, despite them playing a lot of songs from the new album.
Also I think that the venue didn't really help them. It's a bit of a weird venue, as it really has to be full in there to get a really good atmosphere because even if there's like three quarters it feels a bit empty. And on a Monday... well... yeah. The crowd did wake up for real when Mille dictated a Wall of Death and a moshpit - 'Swedish style' - though. He got a large chunk of the crowd moving! That was just towards the end though, and before that it was a quite chilled crowd for being a Thrash gig.
All in all, it kind of felt like "another day at work" though, which is still a good show. But it was lacking that little bit extra to stand out for me at least!
