First up this year was this Sludge/Avantgarde band from Malmö. It didn't really appeal to me. But they had one cool thing! They actually had a guy playing a telmin (youtube this instrument, it's cool!). That's a first for me! Respect to them for actually having a guy playing it live instead of just sampling it!
Kind of funny also that for the last song the singer went off the stage and was hanging out in the bar/in front of the stage for the last half... Oh, then they played an extra song, a cover. And he sang from the front row. Which of course meant you couldn't really hear his vocals. :P

Then it was time for some Grind from Gävle. Not really my thing, but they did an all right job. Probably solid if you're into Grind. They felt kind of inexperienced though, with it being grind the pauses between songs were almost as long as the songs themselves... and then it's perhaps an idea to at least say something?

Lock Up
Yeah, I don't really like Grindcore. But Lock Up has something special that appeals to me. I don't know if it's the riffs, the tempo or just Tompa being there. But I really like them! Maybe it's just that this band pretty much has the best of the best in what the genre has to offer... I mean if you're into Grindcore you've heard about these guys... Tompa Lindberg (At the Gates, Grotesque etc), Shane Embury (Napalm Death, Brujeria, Anaal Nathkrath...), Nick Barker (Too many to mention one over the oters...) and Anton Reisenegger (who's the new guy who took over after Jesse Pintado who's sadly deceased). Some kind of Allstarband!
In either case I was a bit worried that it wouldn't be so good live, that much of the dynamic sound would disappear in the mess that is a liveshow or something. But it was uncalled for! Because the sound was great! I was actually very positively surprised!
And then there's Tompa on stage. He's actually very good at being a frontman, and you can see the passion in him on stage. He loves doing this! I guess it also helped that we in the crowd did give them a very warm welcome, and you could tell that Tompa was very pleased. He even asked us if it really was a Tuesday in Stockholm, because the atmosphere were too good for that! His vocals were superb as well, he's in really good shape!
And yeah, this was one of the most chaotic shows I've been to in a very long time indeed. There was people crowdsurfing and hanging from the ceiling and what not! That's not a common sight over here!
So I don't like Grindcore... but I really like Lock Up! Today I'm broken... Good start of the new year!
