Rock against Cancer... Special event that collects money towards research for Cancer! Nice initiative!
Sterbhaus
Scarpoint were supposed to play this evening, but had to cancel due to illness so Sterbhaus was booked instead with a two day notice... Making it the third time I see them this year at the same venue! Heh. And it still seems Stockholm doesn't quite get these guys. They are quite weird obviously, with their special brand of Thrash. I guess they just play for the wrong crowds! A nice energetic gig from the guys as usual though, and I did enjoy the mix of old and new. Extra nice that they ended with Destroy the Fire (with Fire) which is one hell of a heavy song! So an all right gig for sure. The sound however was not very good... and then after the gig I realised that it was because of the speakers on the right side of the venue were broken... so I changed side and was happy with the sound for the rest of the evening!
Degradead
Once again these guys then! In Flames-inspired Melodic Death Metal, and I've seen them many, many times. Last time I saw them they were actually really good so I had some expectations for this gig. They have a new album out as well which I've heard nothing from at all, which meant I had barely heard any of the songs they played this night before at all. I didn't quite like the direction they seem to be taking either - so needless to say the highlight for me was when they played Burned from the first album. Other than that they actually felt a bit tired and worn, perhaps they have also just got back from a tour or something? They didn't quite have the energy I expect from them, but that doesn't mean it was bad - far from it they had a good show! I was expecting a bit more though, but still nothing to complain about!
Grave
Also the third time I see them in a year, and the seventh time in total for me. They just simply never fail to deliver and this night was no exception at all. You couldn't really tell that they've just got back from a 8 week tour, they were still up there and having fun as they always do. Messing with each other by plucking the other guys strings and hitting eachothers whammy bars and making silly poses and what not! Always fun to see! It never fails to impress me when a band that has been around for so long and has played so many shows can still come out there and still have fun, awesome!
And for the setlist it was quite similar as the last one from the release party a few months back. Most of the new songs they played then they played tonight as well, but they had changed up the old songs. Which is always nice! I mean, not that I would mind if they played an exact same set really - I'd still go see them again tomorrow! Because once again, Grave always delivers.
I'm also happy to see a band like Grave being in on this kind of charity gig as well, as it was extremely cheap I doubt they earned much by doing so! But I've always thought they're very down to earth guys so it doesn't surprise me either.
It's a bit too bad that this gig was on a Wednesday though, those gigs in the middle of the week are always a bit weak when it comes to people showing up. And in this case it was also people leaving early to catch the last trains and what not. It's a bit of a shame I think, but it was a decent amount of people anyway and still a good atmosphere!
Today my neck hurts. But all ready looking forwards to the next time!
