Fagerlund's reviews

Here I will post my reviews, of mostly Metal concerts/festivals that I've been to.

Marduk + Valkyrja, Stockholm 9/10-2013

Valkyrja
Fourth time I see these guys now, and still really nice! They keep touring with bigger names now, and that's really great to see since that'll hopefully give them some more exposure and they really do deserve it!
Pretty short set this night though, with only six or seven songs I think. But they did mix it up from all three albums. The new songs sounded really nice, and will be interesting to hear the new album once it's out!
One have to mention that they sound quite a bit like Watain though. But they're a younger, hungrier Watain. With a much better drummer. So it's totally fine. But considering Watains success and Valkyrja touring with bigger names... that bodes well for Valkyrja I think!
Really nice show, and nice to see them get some good support on the homefield as well!

Marduk
Have seem them four times before this, so I knew what to expect. Never really got that much into Marduk to be honest... but this time they were really tame. I guess you can't blame them too much, when basically every instrument but the microphone had technical difficulties during the show... and I think this is one of the few shows where the sound has become gradually worse the longer the show went (usually it's the opposite!). But when Mortiis tells the crowd to shut the fuck up when they despite everything has started to chant "Marduk"... he really killed the last energy I think. And then he goes on to complain about the lack of energy for the whole show. Really?
The thing is the band delivered a very lackluster show, so of course the crowds response will be very lackluster as well. The weird dynamic of the setlist didn't help either. What's up with fast, slow, fast, slow, fast slow? You can't really get the rythm when they do like that I think.
Don't get me wrong though, it wasn't bad. It was just another day at work I guess. Nothing memorable really. Except for the fact that they brought in Alan from Primordial as a guest for one song. That was really nice! And I think it was the song that got the best response from the crowd as well, as Alan did bring some positive energy on stage.
Not even the talking was memorable... I mean, I have some expectations on Mr. "Last time I cried was 1942 when the war ended". But this night, nothing.
I have seen Marduk so much better than this, so a bit annoying when they do a show like this really. Better luck with the equipment next time I guess!
