Grave + Vomitory + Stench, Stockholm 6/9-2013

Stench
First out were these young Swedish Death Metallers. Pretty groovy Death Metal with harsh vocals that at times sounds a bit more like Black Metal. I particularly liked that instead of talking between the songs they played little bridges connecting the songs. It created a nice flow and kept it pretty interesting. Definitely a good start of the night.
Vomitory
So, Vomitory has announced that they will end the band when 2013 ends, so this was their last gig in Stockholm. Oldschool Death Metal icons, so I'm glad I got the chance to see them before they called it quits!
Basically, when you think of Brutal Death Metal, you'll hear something like Vomitory in your head. It's simply that, a punch in the face. They do have a really good drummer, which is kind of what separates the great Death Metal bands from others... when they can get your head banging despite playing at insane speeds you know it's great stuff.
They brought their old singer Jussi Linna with them as well to sing one song, a nice touch for sure! Damn good show, I could barely stand afterwards...
Grave
Short version: 25 years of Grave. One song from each demo/album. Ace.
Long version: Eight time I see Grave, and I still never get disappointed. This was their special 25-year anniversary gig, celebrating the longlivety of the band. It's the second time in a pretty short time that I see Grave playing after another great Death Metal band doing their last show (Vicious Art last time). And there might be a message in there... when other bands quit, Grave are still there playing as always. And no sign of slowing down either... they're better than ever in fact!
Before the gig I was thinking about whether they would bring some old members on stage or not, since I all ready knew they'd play songs from every album. And I came to the conclusion that it doesn't really matter. Because the current line up of Grave is so damn good! Ola is the one who keeps it all together, and with a main man like that you don't really miss the old members anyway. So even if it's cool with the old members on stage and all that, it was totally fine that they didn't bring any this time.
I must say I felt like the support from the crowd was a bit weaker than it should've been though. Behind me (I was on row three or so) there was a huge gap for the entire show, which felt a bit silly. Especially after Vomitory. Oh well...
The setlist. One song from each album is a tricky choice for Grave I think. So many good ones to chose from... and I think the choices they made were a bit surprising in some cases really. But that's cool! Means there was a lot of songs I hadn't seen live before and that's always a nice thing. It was a quite long set as well (by Death Metal standards at least) which was awesome! My neck isn't as happy though, buy hey you have to make some sacrifices...
All ready looking forwards to next time!
