Fagerlund's reviews

Here I will post my reviews, of mostly Metal concerts/festivals that I've been to.

Lord Belial + Skogen + Patronymicon, Stockholm 7/9-2013

Patronymicon
First band of the Black Metal night. I would call them pretty generic really. Nothing really stood out for me, it was all right but nothing that seemed memorable or made me want to hear more or anything. Didn't help that they had technical difficulties either, as their stand-in guitarist left the stage during the last song since he couldn't get his second guitar to work properly... Ohwell, shit happens.

Skogen
Then on to a more atmospheric Black Metal band, with lyrics about nature and such instead of the traditional satanic stuff. I think I was just in the right mood for this kind of music, as it was very melancholic and compelling. They build their songs around the same theme it seems, which made the whole set feel connected. It certainly helped that they had a really good drummer who kept the flow going at all times. Definitely something I want to check out further at some point.

Lord Belial
And then the return of Lord Belial. Only two of the brothers unfortunately, but you can't get everything I guess. So basically they reunited earlier this year with a new bass player and a new second guitar player to do some shows. But you couldn't really tell that they've had this break, as everything just went as smoothly as if this is something they do every day. And that says something about their musical skills, as they have some damn fast songs.
The set was over all mostly old songs, which is certainly a good thing. Those riffs are damn awesome, and to get the chance to hear them live with good sound was just great. Because honestly, the production of those old albums is just horrible. So here a chance to really hear those riffs come to life! Good times!
Really good support from the crowd as well, they had to play all three encore songs (seemed a bit unprepared, but with such complex songs played flawlessly they had obviously practised for the chance to play them at least...), one of which was Realm of a Thousand Burning Souls - a damn long epic finish of the night for sure.
Good set, good performance, good night. A bit static in the delivery, but I guess with such fast songs it's hard to do anything other than play... and with such good riffs that's enough anyway.
