Fagerlund's reviews

Here I will post my reviews, of mostly Metal concerts/festivals that I've been to.

Morgana Lefay + Vietcong Pornsürfers + Wolf + Fabriken + Madhouse, Storvik 1/3-2014

Kategori: Concerts

Madhouse
Didn't really see these guys as we got there late, and while they were playing I was focused on getting a burger and eating it... however the singer sounded pretty good at least!

Fabriken
Local heroes? Pretty proggy stuff, didn't like the singer. Didn't really catch my attention.

Wolf
Third time I see the wolves from Örebro. Still playing their 80's Heavy Metal, still doing it good and still being a really good live band. I kind of lost track of them after the first three albums, which really shows in the set list. Didn't recognise many songs, but still in the same vein as the older stuff. Not bad at all!

Vietcong Pornsürfers
Have no idea why these guys were playing the spot after Wolf, should totally have been switched. They were pretty good at what they did I guess, but it was still boring since it is what it was... I'm sure it was awesome if you like The Hives or some such. Not my cup of blood.

Morgana Lefay
Finally! I have been waiting for so many years to see these guys! They've been said to be the best Swedish live band around, but they play so rarely it has been quite hard to catch them! So finally me and some friends went to the tiny settlement of Storvik in the mid-north of Sweden. This place has 2300 inhabitants, so yeah. The venue was a sports hall with a stage, bit odd. It could easily take some 750+ visitors, but for this night sadly only about a 100 people were there. So well... spacey. And that was Chulles first comment "Always fun to play a sold out show!". Heh.
However, looking at the band you wouldn't think they played in front of so few people because they really put a lot of energy into it. For them this was a serious gig. And man did they kick ass. This is one of those bands who has a lot of fun on stage, but they're still being very good at what they do. No compromises or such. They're here to play heavy music, and that's what we'll get.
On top of this delivery Chulle is a really good front man, he connects with the crowd. He looks extremely comfortable on stage, makes jokes and responds to various happenings in the crowd etc. And then there's his voice. His voice is basically what makes this band so amazing to me, it's a one of a kind. Filled with emotion, and superb technique. And he completely nailed it, every song.
Speaking of sound, the sound was overall quite good. I was a bit worried, it being a sports venue and all... but they did a good job on this area. My only complaint is basically that the backing vocals were quite low, and in some songs the backing vocals does most of the chorus so they sounded a bit off. I guess they normally expect the crowd to help out on this part... and don't get me wrong, those of us who where there really tried... but there weren't very many of us!
I was a bit surprised to see so few songs from their latest album (I think it is a really good album!), but I guess either they're not comfortable with those songs, or they wanted to go for an "oldies" set. It's totally fine with me though, because they made some awesome choices for songs. I really liked the dynamics of the set as well, they go fast, they go heavy, they slow down... a moment of rest. It had a really good flow to it. It was a quite long one as well, even though I wouldn't have had any troubles seeing a couple of more songs!
In total five hours in a car back and forth just to see one band... totally worth it! I hope I get the pleasure of seing these guys again, but at a more fitting venue! They're hinting that they're making new songs now... but knowing their past that doesn't mean they'll play more so... Still a damn awesome show, and if they can deliver like this at a place like this... I can see why people would call them the best live band in Sweden.
