Fagerlund's reviews

Here I will post my reviews, of mostly Metal concerts/festivals that I've been to.

Gigs, gigs and more gigs...

Kategori: Concerts

Long time no writing... doesn't mean I haven't been to any gigs though but rather the opposite... so let's make a quick summary!

Craft + Kill + Ensnared, 13/9-2014 Stockholm

So both Kill and Ensnared wasn't very memorable really, standard Swedish Black Metal. Craft on the other hand is one of those cult bands that hasn't really played live before, so that was pretty cool! Nice set as well as good sound made this a pretty cool show! All though I must admit that when I'm writing this two months later I don't remember too much from it... just a good impression overall!

Ghost, 26/9-2014 Stockholm

I never understood the hype around Ghost, but when I get the chance to see them for free then why not? I don't think their music is anything special, it feels like I've heard it all before just some catchy tunes. They had a really nice stage though, with a cathedral and stuff! And also pleasant to hear the guitarplaying of one of the Ghouls, he's actually really good! And as a finishing touch it started raining as they got off the stage...

Imperial State Electric + Spiders, 2/10-2014 Stockholm

I have seen Spiders before, and they're a quite nice catchy band from Gothenburg. This time they were a lot better than last time I saw them actually! And after that some rock'n'roll with Nicke Andersson! This set was just solid all around, these guys really know what they're doing. They get on stage and they get down to business, and it's just rock'n'roll. Really good show! And it got even better when they started inviting some guests on stage and adding in some covers as well! Good show indeed!

Lindsey Stirling, 6/10-2014 Stockholm

On to something completely different! Violinist made famous by Youtube! She basically got famous by making violin covers of popular video game music, and she made it really well! Her original music is basically dubstep with violins, and it sounds pretty nice! On top of all this they had really worked on the stage show, so you always had something interesting to watch. Either it was dancing, or it was a lightshow or just shadows playing over the background. They also showed some videos as well. Overall it was really cool!

The Haunted + Dead Soul, 9/10-2014 Stockholm

All right, back to Metal again! First of, Dead Soul was a weird support band for The Haunted as it was more in the lines of a band like Ghost I guess. It was okay, but nothing memorable. So then The Haunted! Marco Aro is back in the band, and that means back to the Thrash roots! I was pleasantly surprised by this show, was actually really good! Great mixture of new and old, and Aro is a great frontman... and the response from the crowd was simply amazing! Awesome show!

Tyranex, 11/10-2014 Stockholm

So I last saw these guys and gal way back when they were unsigned... and now here's their release party for their second album! I decided it would be cool to see what had happened with them since last time, and this was a good chance since they played two sets, first the whole new album and then some oldies! And it's still some solid Thrash! Pretty good stuff!

Spiral Skies, 31/10-2014 Stockholm

So another first gig! Here's the vocalist from Lapis Lazuli and Myrkertidh who joined forces with a progband this time. And it seems she has found a great band this time around! This music really suits her voice really well. Cool music and they seemed to have a lot of fun!

Wormwood + Edin Na Zin + Unsanctus, 1/11-2014 Stockholm

And then some Black Metal! Edin Na Zin and Unsanctus were both quite nice, but for me they were missing the feeling of Blackness. Still rather good! And then on to Wormwood, second time I see them and this time with a new guitarplayer... and that really boosted the band! This time I felt they were a lot better than last time, and their new EP sounds very promissing! They've added even more melodies into the mix, and it's really cool!

Freak Kitchen, 7/11-2014 Stockholm

Freak Kitchen are always a blast to see live! Very talented musicans and IA is a funny frontman! A bit stressed show this time though, because for some reason the venue has scheduled another event right after for a completely different kind of crowd... so Freak Kitchen had to keep it pretty short unfortunately! They also had some... interesting... mess ups. But that to me just showed how skilled they are, as they handled it really well and just kept on going! Good show as usual, and they even played Teargas Jazz like they promised last time!

Saint Vitus + Orange Goblin, 8/11-2014 Stockholm

First off Orange Goblin were awesome! I saw them at Metal Days before, playing in the rain and mud... but this time they really stepped it up! I think the smaller venue really suited them! Despite the vocalist having a sore throat he really delivered the songs! It's not often you feel like the support band deserves a 1 hour and 15 minutes set... but this time they really did!
And then on to the Doom Legends... and apparantly the last show with vocalist Wino on this tour since he decided to be stupid and got arrested and then deported from Norway the day after for carrying illegal substances... smart guy! Anyhow, their habbits is a different matter. The show they delivered was really good! It was a 35 year anniversary for their album Born Too Late which meant they played every song from that one as well as a choice of other classics as well. When a band has been around for this long you can be pretty sure they know what they're doing on stage... and yeah, great show all around!

Netherbird + Diabolical + Astrophobos + Hyperion, 14/11-2014 Stockholm

And finally to round up this post... the 10 Year Anniversary show of Netherbird!
Opening the night was young guys in Hyperion playing some classic Black Metal in the vein of bands such as Dissection and Lord Belial. Not bad at all, some potential there for sure! After that Astrophobos entered the stage. They released a really well recieved album earlier this year so was really excited to see them this time! And it was a really solid set, and I think they actually had the largest crowd of the evening as well. Nice one!
After that Diabolical stepped up, and well... it's not often that you see a Death Metal gig with more girls than guys in the crowd. This was one such occasion! It probably helped that there weren't that many people left though, and the whole thing got a bit of a rehersal feeling... but they really delivered a tight set! Good stuff!
And then finally, Netherbird got on the stage for perhaps the last time. "Welcome to the wake" Johan greeted us with, and this sad atmosphere permeated the whole set. But even so they went out in style! They decided to bring on some guests this time around, with old members Tobias Gustafsson (bass) and Erik Röjås (drums) as well as guest vocals by Nine (WormwoodWithershin). Always a nice touch with some old members on stage, and I for one always appreciate Eriks drumming! But as Johan said, all nice things must die. You could tell it was an emotional moment for him, and he even went off the stage for the last intrumental part of the last song Shadow Walker to watch it from behind the crowd and didn't come back on stage. As far as endings go, it was a good one.
