Fagerlund's reviews

Here I will post my reviews, of mostly Metal concerts/festivals that I've been to.

Less than a month...

Kategori: Misc.

Been a while since I wrote something since there's a lack of concerts during the festival season... So I thought I'd write something about me going to MetalCamp! Just a few weeks left! So what bands am I planning to see, and what am I expecting? Might be fun to see afterwards if the bands delivers like I hope and all that. So here goes, divided day by day!

TUESDAY
The first day of the festival isn't terribly interesting for me actually. A few bands that I've seen before pretty much, and then In Solitude and Urgehall who were supposed to play have cancelled all ready... so that leaves:
Death Angel - I saw them on the last Kreator tour and they're damn good live, so that should be nice!
Arch Enemy - Never been a huge fan, but saw them at Hellfest last year and they were surprisingly good live, so I'll investigate if it was a one-time only!
Moonspell - One of those bands I've not really listened a lot to but I hear a lot about so I'll definitely see if they can live up to the fuzz.
Winterfylleth - Honestly I have no idea what to expect, but Folky stuff is usually cool live.
Airbourne - Seen them twice before, and they're rather entertaining so why not!
Brujeira - Mexican Death Metal? I have to check this out!

WEDNESDAY
I have a strong feeling the highlight of the festival will come this early all ready...
Wintersun - The main reason I'm going! Very high expectations indeed!
Legion of the Damned - Damn good Thrash is always cool live, and I expect LotD to be no different!
Brainstorm - One name. Andy B. Franck. Can he deliver live?
Katatonia - They seem to play everywhere I go so I might as well catch them again...
Achren - Heard the name mentioned before and I'm always thirsty for new Death bands!
I might see Kylesa and Mastodoon as well, but have no expectations at all there.

THURSDAY
The third day has a quite nice mixture of new and old for me, so that'll be an interesting day I think!
Taake - I HAVE to see this madman live!
Hate - Polish Death Metal has a tendency to be great indeed...
The Ocean - Saw them supporting Opeth a few years back and they were quite cool so looking forwards to this set.
Slayer - Well you know how it goes. I have no big expectations however, but they're just one of those bands I can't really skip, can I?
Trollfest - Love these guys on album! Will be great fun to see if they can deliver live!
Kalmah - Have no expectations really, but I'm curious why so many people seem to like them.
Watain - It's a safe bet really.
Die Apokalyptischen Reiter - I did see a bit of them the first year I went to Wacken, and it seemed like a funny band to see live. So maybe this time I'll have a better look at them!

FRIDAY
Another day with a nice mixture actually, but with mostly bands I've all ready seen before.
Suicidal Angels - I saw them with Kreator last time, and this is some damn great Thrash. I expect to be broken after their set!
Arkona - Really curious about this band live, could be great or could be horrible.
Mercenary - It's too bad that nor Kral nor Sandager are no longer in the band, really love the 11 Dreams album. But I'll definitely see what the new line up brings - as I've not even heard their latest two albums.
Blind Guardian - Last time I saw them I got a nosebleed... I'll give them a chance to redeem themselves though. :P
Powerwolf - Saw half their set at Wacken due to a schedule change, maybe this time I get to see more!
Zonaria - There was a time when they were supporting everyone here, so I've seen them a few times all ready. Will be interesting to see if they've evolved any!
Evile - They were rather dull last time I saw them, but maybe they only had a bad day?
Alestorm - I've kinda missed the hype about this band, but I guess I should see them!

SATURDAY
And then the last day! And the festival goes out with a boom I think, lots a big names here!
Amorphis - Long time no see! Class act! (Are you reading this Jim?)
Deicide - Will they actually play? Or will the mandatory cancel come into play once again? They've actually played a few shows in Europe this year...!
Moonsorrow - I was at Wacken when they played there, but they clashed with another band so I missed them... and now they have a new amazing album out so I hope I get to see them this time!
Kreator - Never a let down.
Virgin Steele - One of the greatest voices in Metal hands down. Can he sing live?
Varg - Pagan stuff!
Accept - It's not the same without Udo I guess, but I might still give them a chance!

So that's that! There are of course more bands playing as well that I've not even heard of, so with a bit of luck I discover a few new gems!

    I am reading this ;-)

Of the bands you are NOT planning to see, here's a couple of suggestions or a back-up plan if you will.

Ava Inferi Female fronted dark metal. Perhaps not your thing, but i would definitely not miss them. Rune Eriksen (ex-Mayhem) is the guitarist.

Imperium Dekadenz: Very atmospheric black metal. You'd definitely like them, so give them a shot, if you have time.

In Solitude: Very cool old school heavy metal band with some Mercyful Fate influences. Could be fun live.

Vanderbuyst: Very cool old school rock band. I bet they are fun live.

Vulture Industries: Imagine a slightly more modern sounding Arcturus. :-)
